The BikeReg.com MABRAcross series is entering its fourth race and many Verge Sport leader jersey races remain too close to call. This Sunday’s Hyattsville CX is an opportunity for those holding on to slim leads in their field to start securing their position. But it is also an opportunity for the pursuers to grab for the golden ring and don the burgundy and white Verge Sport MABRAcross kit.
Haymarket-SEAVS teammates Jared Nieters and Patty Buerkle took top honors in the elite races at the second annual Winchester Apple Harvest Cross, but the true star of the day was the course. The Winchester Wheelmen presented racers with fast off-cambers, wooded dirt trails, fast descents and a leg-breaking climb. Throw in some rolling terrain, a spiral of death, and a couple fast power sections and this course had something for each of the nearly 300 racers that showed up on race day.
Joe Dombrowski (Haymarket Bicycles-SEAVS) and Erin Silliman (Fruit66/Artemis) took convincing wins in the elite races at the 2010 Breast Cancer Awareness Cyclocross Challenge presented by Antietam Velo Club. Debuting a new venue, the BikeReg.com MABRAcross series race #2 offered riders sunny skies but a rain-drenched, muddy course. Riders with power and an ability to ride through the slop fared best on the grounds of historic Fort Ritchie in Cascade, Md.

Ed Sander Memorial Cyclocross took place September 26 at the Lilypons Water Gardens, Adamstown, Md. Hosted by NCVC and United Healthcare, the Ed Sander race was the first event in the eleven race BikeReg.com MABRAcross series.

In August of 2001, NCVC teammate Ed Sander passed away following a tragic training accident. In remembrance of Ed, NCVC hosts bicycling events on the grounds of Ed’s former employer, Lilypons Water Gardens. Proceeds from these events go into a college scholarship fund that was established eight years ago for Ed’s only son, Chris. This year, NCVC/UnitedHealth Group will be holding its Ed Sander Cyclocross Race on Sunday, September 26th at Lilypons near Frederick, MD. Check out this video of last year’s elite race on the course…
